About us:

Based in the market town of Malton which is Yorkshires' food capital, Malton is our largest site and is also where our head office is based. The site offers a full processing operation from slaughter line, primary and secondary processing producing fresh pork and gammon which we distribute across the UK and internationally. We are an award-winning site, having received accolades from many customers and accredited organisations. We are the only site in the UK to hold the USDA licence for exporting to US and China, something we are extremely proud of and work hard to retain.

Job Role:

You may never have thought about a butchery job before, but actually being a butcher is a career choice that's secure and progressive and there's currently a national shortage of people with the right skills. As one of the UK's leading pork processors, Karro Food Group supplies retailers and foodservice customers and we are looking for passionate, enthusiastic people to join our team.

If you are starting out in your first career, the opportunity to train as a qualified Butcher could be for you! Apprenticeships offer you a way to achieve Industry-Recognised Certification whilst also being able to work full time and earn a great income. You will be fully supported by our own highly specialised inhouse butchery teams as well as receive expert training on our 18 month structured programme provided by our training providers who are extremely successful in helping our apprentices grow both personally and professionally and many of our apprentices often go on to achieve UK awards for expertise and commitment! On successful completion, apprentices are recognised by the Institute of Meat (IoM) entitling them to use the initials M.Inst.M.

You'll start your journey with Karro meeting our training provider to discuss the apprenticeship and go on to complete our informative induction with full training which gives you a real insight into our history, growth and successes throughout the years. And of course, there is quite a bit of information on health and safety, PPE and what you can and cannot do in the factory - after all we are a food preparation environment and health, safety and cleanliness are some of our top priorities. This is a fantastic way to get your apprenticeship training started!

During your apprenticeship, you will learn more about the various meat species and different skills and knowledge required to become an expert butcher, as well as specialising as a Process Butcher, which includes learning about meat standards, commercial aspects of meat processing, traceability, auditing practices and customer requirements.

Location:

The Butchery Apprenticeship standard is currently available at both Level 2 and 3 lasting between 12-36 months. We are looking to recruit Butchery Apprentices to join our team at Malton, North Yorkshire.

This is fantastic platform to build a solid set of skills from a company that prides itself on giving people a chance to reach their potential.
