Boiler Maintenance Engineer

To work as part of the site services section of the engineering team to manage the maintenance of the steam boilers and the site effluent plant onsite at our Malton meat processing plant. Carrying out engineering maintenance service activities and ensuring maximum operational effectiveness, through the introduction of new systems and procedures which will improve the competitiveness of the company and ensure a physical environment fit for manufacturing quality food products in compliance with current health & safety legislation. The boiler maintenance engineer will need to balance team skills with a hands-on practical approach to engineering issues on site.

Shift pattern: 4on4off DAYS 5.30am-5.30pm

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safe operation and availability of the 5 steam boilers onsite in line with all current legislation and company compliance
  • Complete documented records of safety procedures for steam boilers including blow downs, water condition and water softening
  • Ensure the safe operation and availability of the site effluent plant in line with all current legislation and the environmental controls required by our external water supplier
  • Operate and safely use all relevant chemicals required for the control of effluent discharge quality
  • Diagnose and rectify minor faults with the equipment that you have been trained to carry out
  • Ensure all chemicals are managed and controlled in line with all current COSHH requirements and relevant safety data
  • Responsibility for control of Contractors working on or around the boiler house and effluent plant
  • Ensure all effluent and boiler line equipment, comply with the required health safety and environmental standards

Essential skills and experience:

  • BOAS certified
  • Extensive experience of working with industrial steam boilers
  • Manufacturing experience
  • Experience of organising planned maintenance of equipment within a fast moving pressurised manufacturing environment
  • Up to date knowledge of required standards in compliance and safety
  • Experience of working with CMMS planned maintenance system
  • Strong organisational skills with an ability to balance a varied workload and re-prioritise in response to changing business needs and unexpected engineering problems
  • Evidence of trouble-shooting and fault diagnosis
  • Must be driven and enthusiastic with a passion for engineering maintenance
  • Highly professional and able to deal with issues unaided
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build excellent working relationships

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Water treatment and effluent experience
  • Mechanical and electrical engineering qualifications and experience, ideally apprenticeship qualified
