An exciting HR and resourcing project to develop and implement an effective recruitment and retention program to ensure continuous supply of hourly paid labour post-Brexit, across all Karro sites. The incumbent will be required to engage site HR teams to ensure; alignment to the agreed strategy and program, and effective implementation.

Role responsibilities:

Strategy

  • Development of an hourly paid post Brexit recruitment strategy for Karro Food Group, to ensure continuity of labour supply
  • Development of site specific initiatives to support the wider strategy
  • Communication of hourly paid recruitment strategy to wider HR team, ensuring understanding, buy-in and compliance
  • Monitoring of effectiveness of strategy and identifying reasons and areas for review based on the strategy meeting agreed objectives

Understanding Current Position

  • Identification and reporting of current site recruitment and on-boarding methods and their effectiveness
  • Identification and reporting on current make up of employees in terms of nationality
  • Assessment of potential impact post Brexit on labour levels and labour shortages
  • Communication of findings to HR Director and wider HR team

Future Possibilities

  • Identification, assessment and provision of recommendations on future possibilities for including underutilised sectors (veterans, ex-offenders, homeless, care leavers, sector skills academies and job centre plus)
  • Examination of use of young workers (under 18s) in factory environment, including risk assessment and possible trials to establish feasibility
  • Assessment of barriers to employment (transport, language and accommodation) providing report and recommendations to remove barriers and improve resourcing
  • Development of community engagement and events, maximising PR and employer brand building opportunities (with use of traditional and social media coverage)

Agency Liaison

  • Working with supplier agencies to understand their reliance on EU labour and measures to be taken to ensure a continued labour supply post-Brexit
  • Provision of report on effectiveness of these measures
  • Establish effectiveness of labour provision by current agencies and recommendations where alternatives are identified

Recruitment

  • Understand and measure effectiveness of current recruitment practices, inductions and on-boarding at sites and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Establish, document and communicate agreed recruitment process for permanent recruitment to ensure adherence to best practice, ETI base-code and legislation
  • Support sites in hourly paid recruitment initiatives where required

Retention

  • Review, understand and provide reporting on current turnover rates of new starters including tenure, role and location
  • Provision of recommendations on how to improve retention rates

Skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Previous experience of (blue-collar, hourly paid, high volume) recruitment, ideally within a food manufacturing, retail or logistics environment as part of an HR team
  • CIPD Level 7 qualified and/or qualified through HR strategic project experience
  • Experience of successfully managing tasks and projects through to completion
  • Broad experience of candidate attraction methods including but not limited to social media platforms, traditional and online advertising, recruitment partners and recruitment events
  • Experience of or solid knowledge of employee retention methods
  • Determined and resilient, with the drive to complete tasks
  • Reliable, conscientious, self-motivated and professional
  • Effective strategic planning and organisation skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence
