The purpose of the role is to provide KARRO Foods Malton with a professional 'best in class' technical management function and to lead the Technical & Hygiene teams and guide the Operational Team at site level, developing and delivering against set processes and practices, and helping to ensure that products are manufactured to meet the food safety and quality standards required both by law and by our customers through verification of standards.

This role takes responsibility for effective management of the Technical function to ensure that the highest standards of food safety of our products and processes are maintained and improved. Reporting to the Site Director with a dotted line reporting to the Group Technical Director, the job-holder will liaise on a daily basis with the Production and Engineering teams, and with all other disciplines in the business as required.

Nurturing positive relationships with both customers and external agencies and seeking at all times to identify opportunities and deliver solutions for continuous business improvement; the role will drive the Technical function forward and develop KARRO's reputation as a centre of excellence.

Our intention is to be the industry leader in technical standards for our chosen categories and the existing teams need senior mentor support in terms of personal development and site performance improvements. Malton site sees a great deal of audit activity, from customers or enforcement authorities and it is pivotal that the business is in 'audit readiness' at all times.

Quality & Operational Excellence

Ensure that the site has the appropriate monitoring and auditing systems in place to demonstrate due diligence, best practice, and full compliance with legal, Karro and our Customer's protocols and specifications.

Assess and deliver both suppliers and own company's product specifications and customer requirements through communicating and training against developments in standards and specifications.

Lead the development of a quality focused ethos within the wider Management & Operational structure through:

  • Sponsoring the quality & technical aspects of the Skills Management System of Observations and Assessments, ensuring the Quality team provide feedback to Operational line managers about individuals' standards of quality management.
  • Educate Functional Managers on the current and future development of international and Customer standards to raise awareness and enhance preparedness.
  • Run development programmes with relevant key colleagues to enhance the wider Quality skillset in the management team.
  • Lead the Quality team to be best in class at root cause analysis to ensure quality is incorporated into the solutions, and that solutions eliminate the cause and prevent reoccurrence.
  • Engage in site-wide communications to drive the full workforce understanding the importance of quality.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Solid experience with technical systems and standards and management within manufacturing.
  • A Graduate of Food Science/Technology (or similar)
  • Experience of working with Operations and Supply Chain Management, Logistic & Planning, Change Management, Project Management, Strategy development, Quality Assurance, Continuous Improvement (TPM etc.).
  • Direct experience of change management at a senior level.
  • Strong track record of successful team management.
  • Experience of managing key capital projects as part of daily role.
