New Product Development Technologist

This role will provide a site-based resource within the new product development (NPD) department, supporting in the development and to delivery all NPD and existing product development (EPD) projects for the site and the customer base. The post-holder will ensure that NPD and EPD projects meet both the customer and site expectations, whilst satisfying all relevant technical criteria, leading to a timely successful launch, supported by the relevant site functions.

Key responsibilities:

  • Become an integral part of the development team to deliver new concepts and projects in line with the briefs
  • Create new and exciting ideas ensuring that products are delivered to the correct specification satisfying consumer, customer, business, commercial, operational, nutritional and process development requirements
  • Follows the development process (stage through to gate) and works with the NPD Manager to ensure that each stage is completed, documented and communicated accurately and efficiently through to all key stakeholders
  • Sample preparation for both internal and external presentations. Taking the lead on production of kitchen samples, managing and approving the production of subsequent samples from the kitchen or factory
  • Create, complete and update all sample submission documentation ensuring all submissions are correct and meet company and customer requirements
  • Cooking and presenting products both internally and externally
  • Support NPD Manager in product presentations both internally and externally
  • Liaise with the technical service team to ensure that all the required information is available for the creation of factory specification documents
  • Liaise with key personal to organise factory trials ensuring all the required materials are available and attend where necessary
  • Maintain the up keep of the NPD kitchen, hygiene, products labelling of food, stock

  • Demonstrate a genuine passion and understanding of food and respect for quality

  • Good interpersonal / communication skills
  • Ability to create a favourable first impression, project yourself well and present with confidence
  • Able to enjoy working within a fast-moving environment with change and high expectations
  • A proven track record of project management, with strong communication skills.

  • Degree level education in a relevant discipline an advantage but not a requirement
  • Demonstrate a genuine passion and understanding of food and respect for quality
  • A proven track record of project management ideally within food production
  • Degree level education in a relevant scientific or food technology discipline would be advantageous
  • Food Hygiene and/or HACCP would be advantageous
  • Able to work both as an individual and as a team player
